CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Apart from the usual men's and ladies' competitions, there will be some women's events. We're all familiar with the Reebok's equipment, the Pegboard contest, and the Cutting system. But what do we know about the womens' competition? Continue reading to find out! Keep checking the CrossFit news section for the latest updates about the competition.
The competition for women
The 2021 Crossfit Games women's competition opened this morning with a swim event. Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and Jonne Koski won in the first event. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall and Eramooo O’Connell came second and three respectively. It was the first Games event by women. The women's side wanted to complete the podium.
The women’s competition is populated with high-level competitors. The field features nine athletes, including a 19 year-old Australian powerhouse who won this competition last year. Other contenders are Australian athlete Kara Saunders, who finished second in Australia and eleventh worldwide in 2020. Andrea Nisler (who competed as a team in the 2018 division, finishing third in the United States and fifteenth overall for 2020) is another rising star. These athletes will be joined by Sara Sigmundsdottir from Iceland, who was awarded the first place medal at the World Crossfit Games earlier in the year.
Pegboard contest
Pegboard competition at Crossfit Games 2021 was the first. It was added to the Games' summer Olympic program along with double-unders and dumbbell overhead squats. Toomey-Orr, who won 30 games events, holds the record of most wins in one Games event. Sager won Event 11 for the men and took home his third Games victory. There were several ties in the contest, but Toomey-Orr's dominance was not enough to keep him out of the win.

CrossFit Games athletes train by focusing on ten core physical skills: strength, flexibility and speed. Pegboard competition tests competitors' grip strength, coordination, and speed. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. The competition was fierce and the athletes felt a sense accomplishment after finishing the Pegboard.
System of cutting
CrossFit Games has a new cutting system for individual competition. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. Because the competition is made up of 15 events, a cut to 30 athletes after the seventh or eighth event is very likely. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.
This year's field consists of 236 athletes, making it the largest in the history of the CrossFit Games. Major cuts are made at the six initial events. The field is reduced to 75 athletes. To determine the top ten, the top 30 athletes compete in a sprint tandem. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Castro's system was strongly criticised by former Games participants, who felt that cuts were too substantial.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok announces new CrossFit Games clothing, shoes and other equipment. The Nano X1 is the new shoe. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Reebok has billed this shoe as "the shoe of fitness," but it actually feels more like a traditional training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoe's responsiveness is enhanced by the RopePro tech and a firm midsole.

CrossFit's sponsorship contract with Reebok is ending at the end of 2020. There will not be a title sponsor for the Games. The Games have been sponsored by Reebok for over a decade, and it's now clear that the company's involvement will be decreasing. Reebok will not fund the Games' prize pool, but it will still make all the equipment and apparel worn by athletes, even the Reebok gear. The company will no longer call itself the "Reebok CrossFit Game", as it currently does.

What is the difference in Aerobic Fitness and Anaerobic Fitness
Anaerobic fitness refers to the ability of our bodies to perform intense physical work without oxygen. Anaerobic pathways can be used to supply enough energy during high-intensity exercise. Anaerobic pathways include glycolysis and creatine phosphate.
Aerobic fitness, on the other hand, is a sustained low-intensity exercise. While performing aerobic exercises, oxygen is used as the primary source of fuel for the cells. In other terms, the aerobic pathway has more energy that the anaerobic.
You must build your aerobic capacity before you can run a marathon. If you only focus on building up your anaerobic capacity, you won't be able to finish the race.
Aerobic fitness can also be called cardiovascular fitness. The two most commonly used methods of measuring cardiovascular fitness, are VO2 Max testing and step tests.
Test VO2 Max
The body's maximum oxygen consumption during exercise is called the VO2 Max. This test measures the amount O2 that the body can use when exercising.
This is one of the most accurate tests to measure cardiovascular fitness. This test requires expensive equipment, and highly qualified professionals to administer.
Step Tests
Step tests are a quick and easy way to test your cardiovascular fitness. These tests require you to walk or run on a track or treadmill for a set amount of time, depending on your weight and age.
These tests are simple to perform, cost-effective, and easily accessible from almost any location. For instance, you can walk on a treadmill for 2 minutes, rest for 1 minute, repeat this process for 20 minutes, and then stop. Throughout the entire session, your heartbeat should stay within a set range.
This is the "Bruce Protocol". Bruce himself was a runner who developed this protocol after he realized that his heart rate would not increase when he ran longer distances.
